The Credentialing Specialist is assigned to the Credentialing and Privileging Office, which is under the Chief of Staff at a VA Medical Center (VAMC) and is responsible for providing administrative and technical direction and support to the credentialing operations. The Credentialing Specialist is aligned to and supervised by the Credentialing and Privileging (C&P) Manager.

Duties

Duties and skills needed in this position include, but are not limited to: Assures application packages and other documents meet technical requirements per specialty of provider. Credentialing Specialist holds the credit card and is responsible for maintaining records reconciling monthly charge statements and verifying legitimacy of requests. Meets the needs of customers, while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats internal and external customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Receives and reviews correspondence and communications and determines which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature. Conducts final appointment into the VetPro database, after thoroughly researching, analyzing and validating all data, information, documents and signature authorities. Delegated authority to initiate requests for information to the NPDB, and to respond to correspondence for requests for provider credentialing information from external entities in accordance with the System of Records Notice 77VA10E2E. Manages the work involving the tracking of data and documents in support of the credentialing operation. Refers current issues, trends, problem areas as well as recommended program revisions to Credentials functions through the C&P Manager/Analyst Skills in applying analytical and evaluative methods to issues concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of complex work assignments within this operation Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0700- 1530 This is NOT a remote Position, you will be required to report to the Salt Lake City VA. Telework: This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Position Description Title/PD#: Program Support Assistant/PD99868S Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS05, for a GS07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience GS-6: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: experience where you were responsible for providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information. OR Specialized Experience GS-7: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Verifying of information in health care provider files; Maintaining confidentiality of information in accordance with the Privacy Act; providing quality control checks on data; managing multiple projects and priorities and meets deadlines; using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry; experience to utilize VetPro credentialing system; ability to review clinical privileges and scopes of practices for accuracy; and file maintenance and data retrieval; and researching reference materials, regulations, and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct problems or issues. There is no educational substitution for the GS- 6 or 7 level PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Skills in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of operations or like program and toward the planning and accomplishment of a variety of complex work assignments. Demonstrated ability applying attention to detail to analyze applications, documents, files, and other material pertaining to the Credentialing &Privileging or similar program. Experience managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
