About the Position: This is a Hospital Housekeeping Officer position located at Joint Base Elmenforf-Richardson, Alaska. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Advise hospital management on matters pertaining to hospital housekeeping and environmental sanitation. Ensure actions of contract personnel so as to minimize patient, employee, or visitor injury and exposure to infectious disease. Ensure maintenance of bacteriological and visual cleanliness in assigned areas of the hospital, and outlying wards and clinics, including administrative waiting rooms of the main hospital building and outlying buildings. Plan, organize, direct, control, manage, and evaluate the hospital housekeeping program and performs duties as the Contracting Officer’s Representatives (COR). Prepare cost analyses and evaluations of proposed changes to ensure contractor's bids are within reasonable cost ranges; recommend revisions to or termination of contracts. Conduct frequent visits to all facilities in order to provide assistance to hospital staff members.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Position may require to be certified to sign for Regulated Medical Waste shipments within six months of employment.
  • Position requires Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) Certification and Association for the Healthcare Environment (AHE) Membership within six months of employment.
  • Position requires Contracting Officer Representative (COR) Certification within six months of employment.
  • This position requires you to submit a Public Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 278) or a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE450) upon entry, and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires to work nights, weekend and holidays.
  • This position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes, 1) assisting with reviewing or inspecting housekeeping program activities or health contracts 2) reviewing or inspecting the maintenance of cleanliness or sanitization of hospital rooms 3) inspecting the contractor's quality of hospital work performance 4) experience applying the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization, or sterilization of surfaces and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: chemistry or biological sciences, sanitary science or administration, institutional sanitation or administration, hospital administration, hotel administration, public administration, business administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
