The position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Veterans Health Administration in the VA Sierra Pacific Network-VISN 21 at VA Palo Alto Health Care System within Radiology.

Duties

DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation. Major Duties: Transport inpatients to and from the Waiting Rooms, Nursing Units, Emergency Department, and Community Living Center. Interpret requests or instructions for medical or health care personnel. Staff the front desks, including welcoming, registering, and changing the patient. Answer incoming calls and updates patients' pertinent information. Maintains sterility of equipment, educates patient to not contact the sterile field, with the purpose of assuring that all preventive measures have been taken to prevent contamination of the patient. Performs additional duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 0730-1600 Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician/PD00006A Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary but also requires some standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of light items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients. The work requires reading/analyzing ability to review data electronically.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Experience working in a healthcare setting, inpatient hospital setting, outpatient surgery, or clinical setting; flexibility to meet the needs of the unit and/or procedure schedule adjustments; knowledge of HIPAA and standard precautions; possess broad knowledge to provide patient care and to assist staff, patients, and patient family members during their pre-, intra- and post- procedure stay; excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team; provide clinical, programmatic, technical, and clerical support in the Unit procedural setting. There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
