This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: To repair, overhaul, rebuild, modify, test, troubleshoot, remove, replace, align, calibrate, inspect and mate avionics integrated electronic and environmental systems. Serves as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) providing training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks herein. DUTIES: Duty 1 - Installs, modifies overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots repairs, rebuilds, aligns, and calibrates electronic and environmental systems, components, or subassemblies. Duty 2 - Performs pretest, operational (functional), or final testing of electronic environmental systems, components, or subassemblies. Duty 3 - Utilizes safety practices and procedures, complies with security regulations, directives, and policies, and maintains a safe and clean work area. Duty 4 - Uses and maintains tools and test equipment required to accomplish duties: Ensures tools are properly marked, calibrated (if necessary), and are secured when area is unattended Duty 5 - Prepares effective training plans to maximize Reserve training.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: the ability to perform the work of an ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC with little to no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of electronic theories and practice of one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control inertial navigation, or automatic landing control systems; of integrated electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, optical and mechanical systems; of such application as radar, digital or analog computer, digital display devices equipment cooling, and of the technology and practice which integrate these components into a total functional system; and of mathematic including algebra and basic trigonometric function to adapt standard function to the specific requirements of the integrated systems. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the electronics trade. Skill in calibrating and adjusting component such as amplifier, proximity boxes, generators, and voltage regulators. (Apples to 5th Generation Aircraft Only) Basic computer skills are required. Individual must be able to access and use computer based maintenance documentation and supply system, and be capable of assimilating training on new systems as they are developed and implemented Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum,, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated system to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harness; and in trouble hooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuit and functions, and the interaction of sub systems which create malfunctions. Comprehensive knowledge of testing and troubleshooting technique and procedure utilizing a variety of test devices and ability to analyze modify, and repair complex electrical or environmental systems and components on assigned aircraft. (Applies to 5th Generation Aircraft Only) Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities and limitation of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi component assemblies and devices. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. Ability to use a variety of electronic electrical, or electromechanical test and measurement equipment. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Ability to interpret and comply with regulations and instruction on security, safety, documentation, and other publications governing the performance of duties. Ability to effectively communicate with workers and supervisors in English using both oral and written reports. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: This an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. Maintains job proficiency by reading/reviewing new or revised technical orders or related publications and by completing applicable CDC, OJT and FTD classes a required. May be required to fly in military or contract aircraft for TDY maintenance or training, in accordance with the JTRs. May be required to support other units in performing on- or off-equipment maintenance. Performs shift work with uncommon tours of duty. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical effort involves lifting components and equipment and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Items lifted generally weigh up to 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Requires a high degree of manual dexterity, eye to hand coordination, prolonged standing, walking, and normal color vision. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed inside in a shop environment and outside on the aircraft, subject to inclement weather. Mechanics are subject to injuries such as cuts and bruises and may be subject to danger from exposure to hazardous materials, high pressure air, high noise level, electrical shock, RF radiation, and burns from soldering irons. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
