The Laundry Worker operates a variety of laundry production equipment, and provides soiled linen sorting and hand folding at the Textile Care Processing Facility at the C. W. Bill Young VA Medical Center.

Duties

Duties Include: Identification and sorting of soiled linen. Operation of the spreader/feeder/ironer/folder and stacker conveyor. Timely delivery of finished textiles. Hand fold miscellaneous items. Ensure linen is acceptable and folds are according to specification. Prioritize the processing/folding of linens and correspond with the machine operator linen priorities. Assist with Laundry processing and distribution. Collect and return soiled linen to the laundry and deliver clean processed linen to using units. Operate the garment finishing machine, small washers and dryers. Work in a safe manner and wear all PPE issued, adhering to established safety policies and reporting any hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm possible weekends and some holidays. Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD06604A and PD10702A Physical Requirements: Employee must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to stand and walk consistently, perform light to moderate bending and stooping, and able to wear PPE for extended period of time as dictated by the work setting. Some heavy movement of laundry carts weighing up to 700 pounds and use of conveyors are required. During normal day to day operations, individual will be required to perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation, reaching above shoulder height and frequent stooping, bending, twisting and kneeling. Position routinely requires that individual operate vehicles, electrical equipment and push or pull soiled and clean laundry carts in and out of Laundry truck, to and from loading docks to various locations within the consolidated TCPF and medical center.
