About the Position: The person in this position will serve as the Library Technician with responsibility for supporting staff by manning circulation desk; performing database cleans up as directed by library director; and providing serials management and interlibrary loan services for a full-service medical library for a major medical center.
Duties
Assist users with operation of automated equipment.
Process orders and send materials to other libraries.
Update records to include patron records, book/journal records, and SERHOLD records.
Shelve library materials by shelving books using the National Library of Medicine (NLM) Classification system.
Answer Ready Reference Questions by responding to questions regarding library holdings, basic library policies, and general information.
Research available online journals/databases.
Track Loans using the Library ILS to check on status of borrowed materials, and as needed.
Work with librarians to market the library/Resource Center via signage, postmaster emails, and other methods.
Notify serials vendor regarding journals that have not arrived in a timely manner.
Track and report relevant metrics to Library Director.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- Library experience is preferred; not required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing automated systems to purchase books, subscriptions, and/or supplies online or by phone, track orders; providing customer service assisting patrons in finding hard-to-find information; assisting other departments translating library needs; and providing guidance and support to customers in regards to library needs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: Completed one full year of graduate level education of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Library and Information Technology; Library Technology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
