As the Division Chief of the Human Systems Integration Division within the Exploration Technology Directorate, you will be responsible for policies, procedures, operations schedules, resources, procurement, funding, and facility requirements for the Division. You will lead a team of highly skilled engineers and scientists to advance human-centered design and operations of complex aerospace systems.
Duties
Develop and implement a long-term strategic vision for the Division, identify opportunities to meet strategic objectives, maintain stakeholder relations and obtain resources to advance strategic goals of the organization.
Implement management processes for near term activities and strategic planning, effectively respond to emerging business opportunities, and deliver high-quality, timely, and cost-effective technical and management products to customers.
Lead collaborations with relevant academic institutions, private industry, and other Federal government agencies. Monitor program, project, and agreements for which the organization is responsible.
Develop and direct development of innovative and/or novel concepts, processes, and techniques in areas such as mission operations, risk analysis, and life-cycle mission management systems.
Conduct special studies for NASA Programs/Projects and its partners.
Direct and manage development and design of large, new, and unusually complex technology, equipment, or systems that impact national or international programs and advance state-of-the-art of technologies.
Ensure that each facility and equipment under Division’s control is operated safely and has a current safety plan. Maintain a risk assessment document in which all risks and hazards associated with each piece of equipment are identified and assessed.

Requirements
- Current Federal employees must meet qualifications, time in grade, and 90 days after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.
To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:
Assessing state-of-the-art technologies (hardware or software) influencing the overall performance of the human components of a system;
Conducting program or project management functions to include, planning, design, testing and evaluation, cost analysis, contract monitoring, or quality management to accomplish organizational goals; and
Advising on technical work involving human factors interfaces to further the integration of advanced aerospace systems.

Education
Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus.
If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
Degrees in engineering technology are
not considered qualifying for this position.
