The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida's (USAO-SDFL) mission is to enforce and defend the laws of the United States of America through the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal government; the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party; and the collection of debts owed to the Federal government that are administratively uncollectible.
Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Legal Assistant (Office Automation) support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Florida, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Miami, Florida, focusing in the areas of providing a wide variety of technical assistance services related to complex civil and/or criminal appeals.
Typical work assignments will include:
Legal research and support;
Preparation and management of evidence and discovery; and
Case management.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National to apply for this position.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
To qualify at the GS-08 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) the duties listed below:
Providing trial support to attorneys by preparing complaints, motions, subpoenas, orders, exhibits, or other hearing and/or trial documents accurately and in proper format;
Using web-based legal resources and platforms to obtain, verify, and submit information; and
Applying legal regulations, precedents, and practices related to forfeiture of assets.
Typing Proficiency: To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
