You will serve as a SUPERVISORY POLICE OFFICER with the SECURITY FORCE OPERATIONS DIVISION, PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT of NSA ANNAPOLIS SECURITY DETACHMENT.

Duties

You will serve as the Deputy Senior Uniformed Law Enforcement Officer for the command. You will direct and supervise personnel. You will ensure that the work scheduled and completed by department is in line with the security goals and objectives of NDW and higher headquarter directives. You will provide 24-hour police services for the protection of life and property within the jurisdiction of the US government by enforcing laws and regulations. You will provide vehicle and pedestrian traffic control, police control, arrest of violators, investigation of misdemeanors, and other incidents within the jurisdiction preview. You will schedule and approve leave of subordinates, prepare performance appraisals, counsel employees, hear and resolve complaints. You will organize Auxiliary Security Force and provide adequate instructions and training to make them an effective force.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Skill in small arms handling. Incumbent must qualify with pistol and shotgun within 10 days of appointment, which must be maintained.
  • Required to pass a yearly physical and continue to be physically fit. Required to pass Physical Agility Test.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following. 1. Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy; 2. Keep in touch with the status and progress of work, and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise; 3. Ensure employees are in compliance with shift requirements for arming and personal protective equipment (PPE), and are provided briefings on installation security posture, safety, and use of deadly force; 4. Estimate and report on expected time of completion of work, maintain records of work accomplishments, time expended, and prepare production reports; 5. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques, make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies; 6. Give on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices; 7. Maintain a current knowledge and answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc., and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up; 8. Check on work in progress and review completed work to see that supervisor's instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met; 9. Amend or reject work not meeting established standards, refer to supervisor questions or matters not covered by standards and problems in meeting performance standards; 10. Monitor working conditions; 11. Approve leave for a few hours or for emergencies; 12. Inform employees of available services and employee activities;13. Resolve simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others to supervisor; 14. Report to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems; and 15. Provide information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
