This position is located within the Illiana VA Healthcare System, Danville, IL. The plumbing worker position involves assisting in enforcement of the Legionella Program and installing, modifying, repairing, and maintaining all of the medical center's plumbing and plumbing -related devices.

Duties

Assists in the installation of all types of plumbing fixtures such as soft water systems, dietetic equipment, dental equipment laboratory equipment, vacuum lines, nitrous oxide, air, gas, piped oxygen sterilizers, hot water heaters, hot water systems, hydrants, storm drainage, sanitary drainage, chilled water piping systems, and any other plumbing-related equipment. Trouble-shoots, maintains, and repairs all or part of the plumbing fixtures. Assist the plumber and pipefitter in reports of steam-piping, traps, steam-operated equipment and assist with installation work. Use of proper plumbing tools and techniques to perform the plumbing work. Works under the supervision of the USRO Supervisor IAW current VAHA Directives to assist in the compliance of the Legionella. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday / 7am - 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Plumbing Worker/PD8173-0 Physical Requirements: The work is frequently performed from tiring and uncomfortable positions requiring stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling; working from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms in hard to reach places. Also may require heavy lifting and working in steam tunnels where space is very limited and temperatures extremely hot.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Experience must demonstrate the following: Installing, repairing and trouble shooting plumbing fixtures, utility, supply, heating, and fire-sprinkling systems with the ability to use tools of the trade and equipment. This includes the installation of soft water systems, hot water heaters, hot water systems, hydrants, storm drainage, sanitary drainage, chilled water piping systems and/or any other plumbing-relating equipment. Must possess the skill to hook up equipment to installed systems and replace joints and fixtures. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
