This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designee. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services.
Duties
Major duties include, but not limited to:
Performs floor maintenance, wall washing
Clean doors, doorframes, baseboard corners and edges, and stairwells
Utilize pressure washers and heavy industrial powered and battery operated equipment
Adjust, clean, and perform minor maintenance on this equipment and changes attachments for their proper use
Empties trash and wastebaskets, replaces liners
Transport general refuse, regulated medical waste and recycling to central collection areas
Clean rest rooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms, ensuring that they are cleaned and meet acceptable
standards
Replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap in all areas where dispensers are located
Move and arrange furniture, patient wardrobes, beds, etc. in the assigned area to accomplish cleaning tasks
Defrost and clean patient care refrigerators and ice machines
Provide interim cleaning of windows and window ledges
Clean and/or replace needle boxes
Periodically clean specific non-critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) in inpatient and clinical areas of the medical center
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Day Shift 7:00 AM - 3:45 PM; Evening Shift 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM; Night Shift 12:00 AM - 8:30 AM, all shifts include weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements: Considerable physical effort is required with heavy lifting 45 pounds and over, heavy carrying 45 pounds and over, Straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (6 hours), standing (2 hours), crawling (1-2 hours), kneeling (1-2 hours), repeated bending (1-2 hours), climbing, legs only (1-2 hours), climbing, use of legs and arms, both legs required, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, and hearing (aid permitted).
Environmental Factors: Work is performed outside and inside, excessive heat, excessive cold, excessive humidity, dust, solvents (degreasing agents), electrical energy, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working around machinery with moving parts, working around moving objects or vehicles, working on ladders or scaffolding, working with hands in water, working closely with others, working alone, and protracted or irregular hours of work.
