This position is located in Base Cape Cod, Command Cadre, Buzzards Bay, MA.
Duties
This role functions as secretary and principal office assistant to the Commanding Officer's office at Base Cape Cod. It ensures the efficient accomplishment of clerical and administrative support, procedures, reports of activities as well as work processes affecting the entire Command. The effectiveness of the divisions, branches, and subordinate organizations are affected by the smooth operation of the front office.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.Typical work assignments include:- Receiving visitors and telephone calls and responding to or routing routine inquiries.- Researching and providing background on subject matter of meetings in addition to attending meetings, preparing minutes, and following up on action items.- Maintaining correspondence and reports in accordance with specific instructions.- Serving as office automation technical support expert. - Answering questions concerning policies and procedures related to support/office services, new projects, and requests and shifts in priorities and commitments.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must type 40 WPM.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
Applicants for the GS-07 grade level must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal service.Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: preparing and maintaining correspondence and other documents in proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format; receiving visitors in person and responding to telephone calls; subject matter research for meetings; automation technical support assistance; resolving problems; and organizing workflow of office.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
