The purpose of this position is to assist the Fitness Director in providing a comprehensive physical fitness program for the installation.
Duties
Responsible for the conduct and oversight of fitness training, equipment and staff. Assists to develop and administer a fitness program serving the needs of active duty military and their family members and other authorized patrons. Plans, markets and conducts ongoing fitness programs to provide conditioning for facility users. Instructs individuals and groups in the proper conditioning and training for aerobic and muscular fitness, body composition and flexibility. Instructs patrons in the proper use of equipment and self-monitored progress by preparing written instructions and procedures for use of equipment and safety of all users.
Requirements
- Must pass all applicable records and background check.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- You must have current, active CPR, AED and First Aid certifications
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles

Must possess knowledge of Navy physical fitness standards to enable the employee to competently and independently carry out fitness activities sports programming and be able to adapt standards to local applications with wellness of entire population being of primary concern and the skill in the application and utilization of such knowledge in planning and carrying out an enhanced fitness program that meets as fully as possible the needs of the participating community.
Skill in the effective management of the financial and physical resources of the program. Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations relating to fitness.
Skill in effectively organizing and utilizing available resources within the program framework of non-appropriated fund procurement and accounting procedures in order to prepare purchase order requests required to support programs. Detailed knowledge of financial recording of obligations incurred as part of the program.
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability to effectively promote a safe and healthy fitness program.
Must have the knowledge of Navy and local directives governing fitness activities and the ability to enforce safety requirements as it relates to techniques and equipment.
Must have the ability to speak effectively about the program and to motivate interested groups of active duty personnel and their family members in related activities and programs.
Must be a mature individual who can work with large groups of people or individuals as necessary.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interview skills are required to assess patron's, and assist with the promoting and marketing the program.
PERSONAL CONTACTS
Contacts are with military members at all levels, base personnel, MWR departmental staff, the Fitness, Fitness and sports staff, MWR Director, other managers, local publicity specialists, participants and other sports coordinators worldwide.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
Contacts are to obtain information, educate, instruct and motivate current and potential military members to obtain optimal results from the fitness program. The incumbent must exercise good judgment and display a sound personal character and cooperative demeanor in serving the military community
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The incumbent is required to have an adequate level of physical fitness as position requires considerable walking, standing, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching and lifting of objects weighing up to 45 pounds, unassisted as necessary to provide techniques of fitness and use of equipment
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is normally performed in a gymnasium with adequate light, heat and ventilation, however, some activities involve everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of this specialty.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
Position has been designated Non-Critical sensitive. As a position of trust and 1TII position, employment is conditional on the successful competition of an Access National Agency Check (ANACI).
Must possess and maintain a current driver's license to drive a government vehicle in the performance of duties may be required.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Education
Education: Major study - general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership: wild land recreation management: natural resources recreation; youth recreation: public, urban, or community recreation: special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.):or physical education.

- Experience
At least three years documented experience that demonstrates the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: specific training and understanding of all forms of exercise, and nutrition and wellness, manage fitness and associated programs, wide range of fitness equipment including resistance and/or selectorized machines, computerized cardiovascular equipment and free weights.
