You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIEST in the ENVIRONMENTAL, SAFETY & HEALTH of SOUTHEAST REG MAINTENANCE CTR SERMC.
Duties
You will provide risk characterization, hazard control recommendations and direct consultation to the safety director, Commanding Officer and other command leadership.
You will conduct industrial hygiene surveys and evaluations of facilities, building, ships, equipment, processes to identify health hazards.
You will investigate occupational health problems that arise among workers and recommend corrective actions.
You will develop, review, audit, coordinate and provide occupational health training and education.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Relocation expenses (i.e. PCS) or relocation incentives as described in 5 USC 5753 may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations.
- You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
- Requirement of position shall be either a Marine Chemist qualified and certified by the National Fire Protection Association or Gas Free Engineer (GFE) qualified and certified by the Navy Gas Free engineer Certification Board per SECNAVINST 5100.16.
- The incumbent shall obtain Gas Free Engineer Certification from the Navy GFE Certification Board within three years of employment hire date.

For GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Conducting visual inspection and testing of confined or poorly ventilated enclosed spaces, and preparing, issuing, and posting confined space certificates for the spaces.
Auditing confined space programs to validate regulations and instructions are followed in strict compliance, as applicable.
Serving as an advisor for environmental and occupational health issues to reduce injury and disease risks among personnel.
Resolving industrial hygiene concerns that are new, unique, or complex.
Developing, reviewing, auditing, coordinating and providing occupational health training and education.
Developing, maintaining and executing hazard abatement and workplace monitoring programs, including risk assessment, to determine corrective actions and sampling priorities
For GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Administering and auditing/reviewing, specialized industrial hygiene programs.
Conducting industrial hygiene surveys and evaluations of facilities, buildings, ships, equipment, processes to identify health hazards.
Monitoring requirements (e.g., lead, asbestos, cadmium, exposure levels. etc.) to evaluate exposure levels.
Developing, reviewing, auditing, coordinating and providing occupational health training and education.
Maintaining records of results of inspections, investigations of mishaps and near misses, fires and other safety violations for analysis and corrective actions.
Compiling and analyzing statistical data and prepares charts, tables, and reports.

Education
Basic Requirements
The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
- Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).
Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. Transcripts must be included with your application in order to be considered.
