This position is located within the Environmental Management Service at the Charles George VA Medical Center and the Western North Carolina Health Care System in Asheville, NC.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Incumbent performs laborer functions in the Housekeeping section for the entire Medical Center with specific moving of equipment in the Operating Rooms, all Specialty clinics, SPS, Pharmacy IV room and cardio cath. Duties include moving boxes and relocating furniture from individual pieces to entire operating rooms, wards, OR tables, crash carts, etc. Ability to safely operate and utilize material handling equipment is mandatory. Equipment used includes, hand forks desk movers, 4 wheeled carts, handcarts, hand trucks, etc. as well as electric hand trucks, lifts, pallet jacks, and dollies to move very heavy loads. Employee is responsible for moving industrial equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and other commercial kitchen equipment and medical equipment. The employee also assists OI& T in moving high tech equipment which includes relocating computers, printers, etc., and setting them up in new offices. The incumbent receives deliveries of EMS supplies; delivers supplies and furniture throughout the Medical Center and unloads trucks. The incumbent will perform the full range of cleaning tasks, from dusting and mopping to the operation of sophisticated cleaning equipment such as carpet shampooers, vacuums, and automatic scrubbers. The position will set up, operate, and remove the ultra violet light for decontamination of areas throughout the Medical Center Cleaning tasks are performed in such fashion that established aseptic and aesthetic quality standards are fully met. Incumbent will maintain outside areas of buildings around entrances, docks, pavilions, shelters and stairways. Duties will include emptying garbage, sweeping, power washing, running small scrubbers and removal of garbage and litter, and cleaning glass, furniture, etc. Performs duties in snow removal from walkways and entrances etc. with the use of shovel and spreads ice melt. Incumbent assists laundry in delivering clean linens, picking up soiled linen in all areas of the Medical Center. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Shift's available are 2nd Shift (11:00am - 7:00pm) and 3rd Shift (3:30pm - 12:00am) NOTE: All Final Shift Determinations will be based on the needs of the service and facility once all New Hires have successfully completed all initial training requirements Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD04280A Physical Requirements: This position requires the incumbent to push and lift items weighing more than 50-lbs daily. These items will be lifted with the assistance from other co-workers. Most of the work required for this position involves twisting, climbing, crawling, lifting, bending, crouching, leaning, stretching, sitting, standing, stooping, and carrying up and down stairs and on irregular terrain in extreme temperatures from -20-degree wind chills to 120-degree heat index. Safety equipment is available and will be issued to the incumbent in order to minimize the possibility of injury.
