This Information Receptionist position is in the Associate Director's services at the VA Providence Healthcare Systems, located at the Providence location. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.

Duties

The Information Receptionist was created for the purpose of providing informational assistance and screening to Veterans, their families, and visitors at the VA Providence Healthcare System. Incumbent will be assigned to Emergency Services, with their primary assignment location at a desk located at the entrance to the facility. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Serves as the first point of contact for many customers. Interacts with customers and staff in a courteous manner. Assists visitors and patients with outpatient transport services. Identifies when situations require additional assistance. Facilitates resolution of problems as they arise. Promotes a culture of teamwork. Projects an attitude of positivity with customers and staff. Screens requests according to priority. Directs visitors and callers to their destinations. Communicates clearly with all customers. Determines nature of customer need. Directs visitor or caller to their destination using verbal directions. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is a LIUNA Bargaining Unit position. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/08/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must have six (6) months of general experience for this occupation in the organization. Examples of general experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Consistently communicates and treats customers in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner; Handles conflicts and problems in dealing with customers constructively and appropriately; Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with all federal laws and regulations; Checks in and provides documents and forms to patients while notifying appropriate staff; Answers questions and effectively communicates concerning policies and procedures related to the organization. OR Education: You must possess one year of education beyond high School. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than 1 year may meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3. Courses of this type normally require completion of up to 40 hours per week of instruction rather than the usual 20 hours per week, and are usually of at least 3 months duration. Such courses may have been obtained through a variety of programs such as those offered by business or technical schools, and through military training programs. To be creditable, such a course must have been designed specifically as career preparation for the work of the position being filled, and must have provided the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR Combination of Education and Experience: Determine the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-03. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: CommunicationCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Interpersonal EffectivenessVeteran and Customer Focus Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The majority of duties performed will be while sitting at a desk. However, incumbent may be required to push a wheelchair, bend or kneel to obtain information or walking to assist patients.
