About the Position: Serves as Consolidated Mailroom Assistant for the Department of Army, Office of The Surgeon General (OTSG) and US Army Medical Command supporting over 20 separate OTSG/MEDCOM and 3 DoD components located at the Defense Health Headquarters complex. Receives, conducts security screening, sorts, and routes all incoming and outgoing accountable mail and electronically transmitted messages for all activities at the OTSG/MEDCOM, and other DoD components located at the complex.

Duties

Monitors local mailings daily for compliance with regulations. Keeps the Official Mail Manger advised on the effectiveness of the program as well as problem areas and recommended courses of action and mailing costs. Ensures compliance with existing regulations governing the use of official government vehicles and makes certain that the intended use of this service meets the provision of the regulations. Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming Accountable mail (Registered, Certified, Express Mail, etc.) in accordance with AR 25-51, DA Memo 25-53, and AR380-5 and records items before sorting and delivering to addressees. Uses networked desktop computer systems to prepare quarterly financial reports for submission to the Defense Post Office on postal charges for all categories of mail handled by the office. Receives, signs for, presorts and files messages received from the Pentagon Telecommunication Center (PTC) and/or Defense Messaging System.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 30lbs in the regular performance of duties.

Specialized Experience: One year of experience which includes: 1) routing incoming mail, of all classifications and special categories; 2) operates metering equipment to weigh, identify and compare postage cost, meter, record, and label outgoing mail; AND 3) experience utilizing postal procedural instructions, postal laws and policies governing the handling and processing of ordinary and accountable mail, postal rates, and mail classes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Decision MakingOrganizational Awareness Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
