This Program Support Assistant (OA), is located in the Nursing Department at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers VA Medical Center located in Memphis, TN. The position is responsible for implementing and facilitating the processes and procedures of the Nurse Recruitment Section in Nursing Service.
Duties
The incumbent will provide program support to the Nurse Professional Standards Board, Chief Nurse of Operations, and assist the Nurse Recruiter in implementing and facilitating the processes and procedures of the Nurse Recruitment section.
The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Prepares NPSB packets for appointments for onboarding.
Prepares follow-up inquiries to applicants to answer questions and provide any subsequent assistance to ensure minimal difficulty in the board process.
Provides guidance and direction for interested applicants regarding the electronic application process.
Prepares application files received through the electronic application process for the selection and boarding process.
Works closely with NR in utilizing knowledge of multiple recruiting sources and executing various recruiting ideas.
Prepares candidate and employee files for Board review.
Receives NPSB minutes and prepares letters based on Board recommended action.
Tracks proficiencies for title 38 nursing staff (RNs/NPs).
Coordinates the scheduling of the board in a timely manner and ensure the proper staff are notified of dates.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/19/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS-06 grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
To qualify for this position at the GS-7 level, you must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Knowledge of the functions, processes, and principles of the Nursing Service recruitment program.
Knowledge of the clerical processes pertaining to the Nurse Professional Standards Board in order to effectively assist in monitoring, implementing and processing board actions.
Knowledge of the methods and procedures of office operations as they relate to Nursing Service in order to accomplish administrative, technical and clerical duties within nursing operations.
Knowledge of the office automation system and advances skills in Microsoft word, power point and excel programs.
Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and required format.
Knowledge of commonly used medical, nursing, administrative terminology is required to enable incumbent to accurately perform administrative and clerical duties.

Physical Requirements: The majority of work is performed in an office setting with adequate light, heat, and ventilation. Typical office setting, subject to noise caused by multiple visits by staff, equipment and telephone interruptions when performing various functions on a daily basis. Work is mostly sedentary; however does require standing, ambulation, bending, lifting of objects less than 25 pounds, and pushing of carts.
