You will serve as a INSTRUMENT MECHANIC LEADER in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will set up machinery and equipment and give instruction in the use of layout techniques, power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices. You will show proper trade techniques and practices and explain safety precautions. You will utilize information from blueprints, sketches, and work documents, to plan and execute the sequence of work tasks. You will ensure safe work practices and good housekeeping while assuring timely tool, equipment, material, and procedure availability.

Requirements

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSTRUCT Isolating malfunctions in complex components and devices; repair or replace defective components and perform final operational tests and calibration; interpret complex drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturers' plans, engineering blueprints, and similar technical information; work from equipment manuals containing operating instructions, theory of operation, schematics, wiring diagrams, and parts lists; repair or replace faulty parts and adjust all moving parts and electrical devices for alignment within the simulated system. Additionally, I have led others by performing such tasks as passing on instructions from supervisors; getting work started; setting the pace; demonstrating proper work methods; seeing that plans, materials, and tools are available; answering questions of workers on procedures, policies, instructions, or other directives; checking work in progress; assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed; reporting to supervisors on status of work; and/or answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems. Isolating malfunctions in complex components and devices; repair or replace defective components and perform final operational tests and calibration; interpret complex drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturers' plans, engineering blueprints, and similar technical information. Additionally, I have led others by performing such tasks as passing on instructions from supervisors; getting work started; setting the pace; demonstrating proper work methods; seeing that plans, materials, and tools are available; assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed; and or reporting to supervisors on status of work. Isolating malfunctions in complex components and devices; repair or replace defective components and perform final operational tests and calibration; interpret complex drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturers' plans, engineering blueprints, and similar technical information. Additionally, I performed such tasks as: passing on instructions from supervisors; mentored others in the performance of my trade; demonstrating proper work methods.
