Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) at Vandenberg Space Force Base is searching for an Engineering Tech, 30 OSS (NJ-0802-03, GS9/11 equivalent).
Description:
TDDEC is a world class state of the art Design and Fabrication center with customers from coast to coast and is Space Force's only Training device fabrication shop. TDDEC provides conceptual and final designs, engineering, fabrication, prove-out and installation of high fidelity, functional desktop and operational task trainers, prototypical and scaled static training devices, models, dioramas, mockups and interactive simulators as well as real world operational components and one-of-a-kind tools for all units within the space and missile community and AETC.
TDDEC is a rare "concept to delivery" work environment that requires all employees to interface directly with customers, design and engineer utilizing a state of the art 3D CAD system (SolidWorks), develop time and cost estimates and preform all aspects of the fabrication processes to include purchasing materials, machining, CNC machining, welding, wood crafting, 3D printing, mold making, casting, painting, laser engraving etc.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Technical and Medical Support Positions. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Comprehensive, extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles, practices, materials, fabrication and construction techniques for various components, devices, and assemblies; and ability to design and fabricate training devices and other prototype and specialty items using complex engineering principles and accepted trade practices. Skill in applying standardized, analytical, and evaluative methods, and techniques, sufficient to review, amend, accept or reject information of a complex nature and with multiple variables, necessary to make informed decisions about problems or issues.
2. Knowledge of and extensive experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems, CAD/CAM and CNC programming software and the ability to write programs, set-up tooling, make work hold set-up, verify program(s) and run production.
3. Knowledge of and extensive experience in the application of techniques for development of new or modified work methods, approaches, or procedures, emerging practices, and methods sufficient to provide management advisory and technical assistance for highly complex engineering functions and practices.
4. Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings and technical specification for space/missile system(s) mechanical components, and knowledge of advanced shop mathematics including basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
5. Ability to clearly communicate, orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical personnel and work cooperatively on projects from initial development to delivery of finished product.
6. Extensive experience using the practices and techniques of various trade skills including model making, machining, welding, sheet metal, wood crafting, plastics fabrication, mold making exhibit fabrication, industrial painting, and basic electrical/electronic
