Duties

Edit and maintain geospatial data. Complete analysis using standard methods and tools. Produce cartographic mapping products. Work actively to bring consistency to all geospatial data. Assist in development of standards and applications. Assist facilitation of sharing and distribution of data. Work with diverse group of resource specialist, planners, and manager coordinating and implementing GIS activities and projects. Assist in integration of Enterprise GIS with the long and short term planning and management activities. Provide technical user support. Development and/or deployment of standardized training activities.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. For GS-09: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience are: 1) Identifying data needs for specific projects, determining compatibility with other platforms, and locating missing information. 2) Digitizing geographic information by translating raw land-based data into code. 3) Identifying basic interrelationships within data and applying layers of geographic data to produce spatial analysis and derivative maps to promote effective and economical management of natural resources. 4) Reconciling coding errors and resolving recurring technical problems. 5) Analyzing cumulative impacts of frequently measured environmental factors and conducting basic 3D/spatial analysis and geospatial modeling to analyze resource distribution and behavior. 6) Conducting research to locate and obtain information from existing databases. 7) Compiling geographic data from a variety of sources. 8) Providing technical user support and troubleshooting assistance for recurring problems related to GIS hardware and application software. 9) Assisting in implementing an integrated training program to teach basic skills in the use of geospatial software, data acquisition, retrieval, and analysis, in order to meet local needs. -OR- Education: Have a Master or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., in a major in any field that provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do GIS work such as: Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, Geomatics, Photogrammetry. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. For GS-11: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience are: 1) Editing and maintaining geospatial data. 2) Completing analysis using standard methods and tools. 3) Producing cartographic mapping products. 4) Assisting in development of standards and applications. 5) Assisting in the facilitation of sharing and distribution of data. 6) Working with a diverse group of resource specialists, planners, and managers coordinating and implementing GIS activities and projects. 7) Assisting in the integration of Enterprise GIS with long and short term planning and management activities. -OR- Education: Have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., in a major in any field that provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do GIS work such as: Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, Geomatics, Photogrammetry. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate doctoral education. Doctoral level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level. Work Environment: The work is primarily in an office/computer room environment. Occasional fieldwork may be required. Fieldwork is in support of resource mapping projects and involves extended days of travel, sometimes in poor weather conditions. You must be comfortable with less than ideal conditions in remote settings in the accomplishment of mapping projects.
