This position is located with the Division of Clinical Services, Medical Services Branch at the Crownpoint Health Center in Crownpoint, NM. The primary purpose is to provide podiatric care services within the Service Unit. These services run the full range of diagnostic, preventative and therapeutic services including surgery. Provides educational and teaching efforts to patients and families.
Duties
Provides diagnostic, preventive, surgical, and therapeutic podiatric services to patients in collaboration with Medical Staff and other foot care team members.
Provides treatment and management of diabetic/neurovascular ulcers in consultation with medical staff in management of other related complex medical problems.
Identifies patients with vascular compromise and refers the patients for vascular studies and vascular intervention in an effort to further reduce amputations.
Assesses educational needs of clients and health care providers in the area of foot and foot wear.
Develops and/or maintains chart forms and computer programs to record and monitor diabetes foot risk and foot care management.
Participates in or serves in committee activities or functions, which assures compliance with accreditation standards such as: Medical Staff representative; Podiatry Performance Improvement/ coordinator, Diabetes Committee member and others as may be assigned.
Develops and maintains a management system for the foot care program to include budget development, assessment, requisition, and inventory of supplies, equipment, shoes and educational materials.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APMLE). In addition, a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-14: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade to qualify.
Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, in the practice of podiatry in an office, clinic, or hospital. Qualifying experience may include:
Diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg problems;
Setting fractures, prescribing physical therapy or drugs, or performing surgery on feet, ankles, or legs;
Treatment of Achilles tendinitis, ganglia of the feet, diabetic neuropathy, foot ulcers, gout, rheumatoid arthritis; stress fractures, or bacterial, viral, and fungal infections; and/or
Other experience necessary to perform the duties of the position.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Perform surgical repair of bone fractures, soft tissue injuries, congenital and structural deformities, and infections involving the foot, ankle and leg. Review past medical history, request or perform diagnostic test and examinations as necessary to obtain information relevant to each case. Diagnose, directs, prescribes or provides treatment, arranges for specialized care or hospitalization. Educates patients on illness and treatment and any follow-up.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
