This position is in Region 1, Superfund and Emergency Management Division, Operations Branch, Technical Support, Site Assessment and Remedial Policy Section. About Region 1: EPA Region 1 (New England) This is an office-centered position*--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.*Work-from-home flexibilities may be authorized as described in the Benefits section.

Qualifications

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below: To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined as analyzing data to evaluate environmental impacts; preparing technical documents related to fate and transfer of contaminants in groundwater/surface water; and assisting in the presentation of technical information.- OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as analyzing data to prepare studies, data, technical evaluations, and/or documents related to groundwater contamination fate and transport, treatment, and supply; and providing related policy or procedural guidance, and responding to questions from concerned parties related to the impacts of contaminants on soil, groundwater, and surface water. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of scientific concepts, principles, and practices applicable to groundwater and soil remediation techniques; 2) Ability to develop and review work plans or studies related to soil and groundwater pollution;  3) Skill in data analysis; 4) Ability to develop recommendations for remediation options for contaminated areas; 5) Skill in written communication; 6) Skill in oral communication; 7) Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

Hydrologist: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The coursework must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included the described coursework.

Geologist: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included the described coursework.
