The Program Support Assistant (PSA) is responsible for functioning as a full member of the primary care team with special responsibilities specific to the following programs: blind/low vision rehabilitation team, which includes optometry, low vision therapy, daily living skills, orientation and mobility, and adaptive technology. This position will support the Low Vision program in addition to Primary Care and the other sections within Primary Care at the Kansas City VA Medical Center.

Major duties include but not limited to:
The PSA assists in the planning, reviewing and reporting of data/statistical results of program studies.
Independently performs work involving the collection, compilation, and/or tracking of
data and statistical information in support of the organization's VISP and Optometry
program operation.
Tracks and trends issues related to program effectiveness and implementation; utilizes statistical data to compile monthly workload reports as requested for all program staff.
Administers patient outcomes assessments, satisfaction (follow-up) surveys and writes
reports on the program for KCVAMC, VISN and VACO.
The PSA serves as a VISP representative/liaison to members the KCVA agency, VISN,
National Blind Rehabilitation Services, veterans and general public (i.e. Veteran Service
Organizations, Blinded Veterans Association, Alphapointe).
Coordinates meetings and/or schedules conferences for both the Optometry, VISP, Audiology, Dental, and other Primary Care clinics as requested.
Maintains meeting minutes and independently follows up on action items/ staff commitments; provides follow up reports to the supervisor.
Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports,
memoranda, and other forms of written communication for the Optometry, VISP, Dental and Audiology clinics.
Performs the following types of duties: edits letters composes letters and reports, reviews correspondence for accuracy and completeness, prepares public presentation outlines, and develops standard or form letters and replies to inquiries.
Serves as ADPAC for the following clinics: Optometry, VISP, Audiology Clinic, and Dental Clinic.
Assist with Timekeeping for Optometry, VISP, Audiology and Dental.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/06/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performing administrative functions, office operations and technology support for an organization; establishing and maintaining filing systems; experience using automated software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint); typing letters, memos, reports; maintaining calendars and schedules.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work entails some movement within the facility as well as sedentary work.
Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
