These positions are located in Canaveral National Seashore, in the Resource Management Division. This is a TERM position that may be employed for a minimum of 13 months, but may be extended up to 4 years. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 12/02/2023 whichever comes first. Duties

This position will serve as a term biological science technician in the Resource Management Division at Canaveral National Seashore. Hurricanes Ian and Nicole impacted natural resources in coastal portion of Canaveral National Seashore during 2022. The primary duties of this position are related to monitoring, recovery and restoration of natural communities impacted by those storms. Major duties will include supplemental monitoring of sea turtle nesting as it relates to impacted nesting habitat; restoration and replanting of native plants in damaged plant communities; control of invasive plants in hurricane impacted plant communities; removal of remnant storm debris and monitoring other species of management concern to assess hurricane effects. Duties may also include installation of barriers, dune fencing and signage to reduce visitor impacts on dune vegetation adjacent to public parking area as well as education and outreach to visitors. This position is a full time, term position with the National Park Service. Work under this position will occur in both the Playalinda District (Titusville, FL) and the Apollo District (New Smyrna Beach).

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/02/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the Biological Science Technician Series 0404: Specialized Experience: Experience must have been related to the work of the position for which application is made. The specialized experience required for some positions in this series is normally work performed in a controlled environment. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Research activity or control program work. Nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment. Work comparable to that with a large dairy farm where production records, animal environment, and sanitary condition were kept in accordance with modern dairy practice. Farming experience that was not performed in a controlled environment, or experience as a laborer who was not responsible for planning and scheduling his/her own work, but only performed assigned tasks, would not qualify as specialized experience. In addition to meeting the IOR listed above, applicants must also meet the minimum qualifications as outlined below: Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Examples of specialized experience include activities such as: performing environmental monitoring or natural resource assessments; conducting inventories of wildlife; executing field studies on plants and/or plant ecology; working with field crews in invasive plant control; ensuring adequate quality control for field and electronic data; making field observations of natural resource conditions and summarizing results for higher-level specialists; assisting in training students, student conservation assistants, and volunteers involved in resource management projects. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
