This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
The Supervisory Social Worker (SSW) is responsible for completing the following duties/responsibilities:
a. The SSW will conduct and supervise psychosocial assessments to determine needs of Veterans and family members.
b. The SSW is an active participant in the treatment planning process with other disciplines.
c. The SSW will participate in and supervise discharge planning with other disciplines and will be responsible for ensuring that discharge plans are executed in a manner that is timely and appropriate.
d. The SSW will provide and supervise individual, family and group counseling as appropriate.
e. The SSW will provide consultation/education to Veterans and families on community resources, advance directives, and VA benefits.
f. The SSW will act as a consultant to other team/staff members.
g. The SSW will act as liaison between VA and community resources, to include marketing and public relation duties as needed.
h. The SSW will provide and supervise case management to Veterans and families, as needed, throughout the continuum of care.
i. The SSW will provide and supervise a full range of services within commonly accepted standards of practice which includes case work, individual, family and group counseling, discharge planning, case management and other services as appropriate.
j. The SSW will address Advance Directives in accordance with the standards of their work area.
k. The SSW will provide and supervise wellness/prevention education and facilitate patient/family support groups as appropriate.
l. The SSW will supervise the practice of all subordinates, students, interns, and case managers assigned to the HCHV program.
m. The SSW will coordinate treatment and communicate with the care lines to facilitate continuity of care for Veterans.
n. The SSW will participate in committee assignments, as deemed necessary by the service manager.
o. The SSW will maintain data and statistical compilations to comply with Joint Commission, CARF, VA and medical center policy and procedures.
p. The SSW will assist patients and their significant others with coping and dealing with the loss and grief experiences in disability, terminal illness and death.
q. The SSW will provide and supervise documentation of professional practice interventions and activities in patients' clinical records utilizing the EHR and will ensure appropriate hand off when transferring of patient care.
r. The SSW will maintain familiarity and responsibility for all performance measures relating to the HCHV Program.

Qualifications
This position may also be filled by a Supervisory Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Basic Requirements:
Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.g.).
English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12
Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
(a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
(b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.
(c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services.
(d) Ability to provide staff training and development.
(e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.
Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience. Experience with Homeless Veterans.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.
Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs.), use of fingers, ability to see computer screen, hearing (aid may be permitted). Environmental factors include working outside and inside, working closely with others, and working alone.
