This position is part of the Transmission Services (T) of theBonneville Power Administration, Department of Energy. As a Student Trainee (Electrical Engineer), you will be involved in periods of pertinent formal education and periods of employment in an occupational engineering field as a part of a formal student employment program. The incumbent will participate in the BPA engineering rotation program and complete assignments in at least two functional areas.

  • Must be in good academic standing (G.P.A 2.0 or higher).
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • This employer participates in the e-Verify program.

  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by a background investigation.
  • Interns will be on a trial period for the duration of the appointment.
  • A Pathways Internship Participant Agreement is required.
  • As a Pathways intern you will be expected to work during your summer, winter and spring breaks unless otherwise coordinated with your manager.

Qualifications

GS-04: To qualify, you must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study OR an associate degree. (1 full academic year is equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.) You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Conversion: Pathways Interns may be converted to a term or permanent position upon program completion. This is not automatic nor guaranteed; it is at the discretion of the employing office. To be eligible for conversion, an Intern must: (1) be converted within 120 days of successful degree completion; (2) be a U.S. citizen; (3) complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Program while enrolled as a half/full-time degree/certificate-seeking student, or meet exception; (4) meet the qualification standards for the position to which converted Engineering Series, 0850 all-professional-engineering-positions-0800.pdf (opm.gov); (5) receive a favorable recommendation by an official of the agency; and (6) meet agency-specific requirements, as specified in the Participant Agreement.

Education Requirements:

Your educational goals must include obtaining a professional degree inElectrical Engineering.

You must submit a copy of your current transcripts with major being pursued for proof of education and enrollment. If you are not currently enrolled but have been accepted for future enrollment, you must submit a copy of your acceptance letter with your application.

NOTE: This Pathways Internship will have a tentative start date in May/June of 2024. If you graduate before October 2024, you will not be eligible for this Pathways Internship Program.
