This position is located the in the National Interagency Incident Communications Division (NIICD), Branch of Communications Maintenance. The incumbent works as a bench technician, under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, providing in depth maintenance and repair of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment.

Duties
Maintains, repairs, and alters intricate electronic systems and radio communications networks that the NIICD uses to carry out its duties.
Works as a bench technician, under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, providing in depth maintenance and repair of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment.
Follows established technical specifications, equipment configurations, and installation plans to identify equipment and service requirements.
Provides emergency radio communications support and intra- and interagency radio collaboration.
Maintains and troubleshoots radio systems by using test equipment such as watt meters, service monitors, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, megohmmeters, and time domain reflectometers.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-09. Applicants must have one-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in the federal Government. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: installing and performing corrective/preventive maintenance on Land Mobile Radio systems, radio components and links, electronic equipment, or power systems; and/or promoting communication among agency technicians and offering support for radio solutions; and/or examining block and schematic diagrams.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.
