Duties
Perform a variety of duties involving the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures, utilities, and general equipment.
Operate chain saws, circular saws, weed eaters, power blowers, snow blowers, lawn mowers, lawn edgers, and similar tools, as well as field use of lawn tractors and heavy-duty powered grounds care equipment.
Serve as a General Equipment Mechanic responsible for generic repair, maintenance, testing, and inspection of laboratory, scientific, mechanical and engineering equipment.
Perform generic repairs, e.g., replaces blown fuses, light bulbs, and electrical switches. Changes out light fixtures, switch and outlet locations, and similar generic electrical repairs, maintenance and upgrades as directed.
Conduct routine inspections of common use areas, i.e., bathrooms, hallways, conference rooms, etc., to ensure that all utilities are in satisfactory operating condition.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform the most difficult and complex Maintenance Worker duties. Skilled in equipment maintenance and repair, serve as general equipment mechanic responsible for repair, maintenance, testing and inspection of equipment. Perform a variety of carpentry work which involves measuring, cutting and repair of wooden items. Installing, maintaining and repairing equipment by analyzing defects and determining the extent of repairs required. Maintain and repair lighting fixtures, power fixtures, wiring, power sources and performing upgrades. Motor vehicle operator: drives trucks, performs driver maintenance and loads and unloads materials using heavy equipment - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Physical Effort-The maintenance worker makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and where the parts to be repaired or replaced are in hard-to-reach places. The worker is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring positions, as well as reach and walk over rough terrain. The worker frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50-70 pounds, and handles objects with proper moving equipment from 70 to in excess of 150 pounds. Must also have the ability to lift objects up to 50 - 70 pounds up to 4 feet high and carry the load 10 feet. Must be able to climb incline (hill) up to 10 feet high and ladders up to 24 feet high. Must be able to stand for two hour duration. Must have normal finger dexterity. May be required to work in streams, creeks, rivers or other bodies of water.
Working Conditions-The work is performed inside and outside and is sometimes dirty, dusty and greasy. The worker is sometimes required to make repairs in bad weather. The worker has occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones, scrapes, burns, insect bites, and sewage.
