This position is located in the Primary Care and Specialty Medicine Clinics at the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System. The position provides clinical support in a wide variety of ancillary activities in the Ambulatory Care Outpatient Clinic. The purpose of this position is to provide technical and administrative support to the assigned clinic. The employee must be flexible and adapt to the various duties within a clinic, ultimately ensuring timely and respectful care of the Veteran population.
Duties
The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Major duties listed but not limited to:
Take temperature, pulse, respirations, pain, blood pressure, height, weight, pulse oximetry
Complete Clinical Reminders for in-person visits in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) according to established Standing Orders Policy
Recheck abnormal vital signs and alerts provider/RN to abnormal vital signs and positive clinical reminders per policy
Observe patients for physical and/or emotional changes and reports deviations from normal baseline to RN or Provider
Assist with delegated minor procedures and treatments including obtaining and maintaining basic necessary equipment and supplies required for all rooms, as well as equipment for specific procedures such as joint injection, biopsy, and cryotherapy
Performs daily operational checks of defibrillators, EKG machines, medication refrigerator temperatures, and glucometers
Apply medical terminology, medication terminology, bio-medical equipment and supply terminology
Initiate and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to the American Heart Association Guideline for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation when immediate need is indicated
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (8 hour period) TBD (work hours may be further discussed during interview)

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
(Screen-Out): Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: You must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for this position.
In addition to the Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, your qualifications for this position will be based on your experience as described below:
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: assess incoming patients and recognize when urgent interventions are required; complete clinic intake procedures to include checking patients in, obtaining, recording and reporting vital signs and measurement; operate electrocardiograph (ECGs, Zio Patch), EKG machines, vital sign measurement equipment and other bio-medical equipment; perform first aid, finger stick blood glucose tests and other basic patient care; provide support to clinical tele-medicine programs such as VA Video Connect appointments; collaborate with clinicians, nurses, administrative staff within the team and specialty services regarding patient care needs; and answers clinic phone calls, update patient address and contact information as needed.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
