The Office of Inspector General (OIG), works within the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to promote efficiency and effectiveness, and prevent or stop waste, fraud and abuse in departmental programs.  

Duties

If selected for this position, you will serve as the Special Agent-in-Charge and as such, will be responsible for managing and developing of all investigative activities involving the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) programs and operations; developing and ensuring the performance of the Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) fraud prevention and detection mission; developing innovative techniques for the detection of fraud, waste, and abuse in DOT programs; maintaining continuing liaison with Federal, military, state, and local law enforcement agencies to ensure investigative continuity and coordination on matters of mutual interest as well as with prosecution authorities; representing the agency in conferences, meetings, and work sessions with industry representatives, professional societies, and other governmental units; ensuring that reports of investigations are accurate and complete prior to referral to the Department of Justice, DOT operating administrations, and Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies; and providing managerial direction and supervision to subordinate staff by assigning and reviewing work, interviewing and selecting candidates for vacancies, recommending promotions, awards, training, or disciplinary actions, as appropriate, and resolving informal employee complaints.

  • Successful completion of a background security investigation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state DL to operate a motor vehicle.

Qualifications

Candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the federal government. Non-governmental experience should be of similar complexity.Specialized experience includes skill in planning and conducting complex criminal, civil, and administrative investigations; experience in the formulation of policies, procedures, and standards of investigation; maintaining liaison with a variety of law enforcement bodies; and managing and providing supervision in a law enforcement operation.NOTE: All applicants who do not currently, or have in the past worked as a GS-1811 Criminal Investigator in a federal OIG office must clearly demonstrate in their on-line application, possession of the experience.
