About the Position: Serves as technical authority for matters pertaining to endangered species, wildlife and other biological aspects of planning, design and operation of water resource development for continuing authority and military projects and programs. This position is located in Nashville, TN

Duties

Performs duties of a Technical Manager on Project Design Teams by representing the Branch and coordinating all environmental activities associated with the project. Supports Project Management in management of the project in accordance with Project Management principles. Utilizes extensive knowledge of the biological sciences with a background knowledge of wildlife animal ecology and physical sciences. Prepares endangered species biological assessments, recovery plans, and coordinates these plans with Federal and State Natural resource agencies and other District elements as appropriate. Conducts or participates in meetings with public and private interests to explain Corps proposed programs, emphasizing environmental considerations. Provides technical advice and assistance on specific biological or ecological problems to key managers and supervisors in the District. Provides training and assistance to personnel in training programs and lower grade personnel in Section. Serves as the Contracting Officer's Representative for contracts involving environmental impact analyses and studies.

Basic Requirement for Biologist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS-12:Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating importance of specific habitats for biological resources and relating changes caused by construction activities to potential environmental and biological impacts; exchanging technical biology information via letters, reports and meetings within and outside the organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Biological Field InvestigationEnvironmental Law and Regulatory ComplianceProblem SolvingWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
