Duties

Functions as a Factory Manager (Trainee) whose position is in Federal Prison Industries (FPI) in a Federal Correctional Facility. The Factory Manager Trainee will receive training and assignments in various management functions comprised in factories of multiple specializations encompassing all phases of operations including but not limited to planning, engineering, product design, testing, procurement, contracting, production, inspection, report preparation, shipping, receiving, and customer service. Responsible under the direct supervision of the Factory Manager for planning, production and scheduling of the manufacturing cycle so that equipment and manpower in all departments are properly utilized and products are manufactured to specifications. Plans and coordinates production through procurement, receiving, machining, assembly, finishing, packing, and shipping. Determines material requirements and availability, coupled with the necessary equipment and tools for the manufacturing process. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a uniform and efficient manufacturing program throughout the factory to substantiate product conformance to drawings, specifications and contractual requirements. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following: Education:Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related. OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience in resolving logistical problems and providing alternative courses of action to minimize lost production time and to meet the customers' requirements. Experience in planning and coordinating production through procurement, receiving, machining, assembly, finishing, packing and shipping. Experience in reviewing and analyzing contracts, drawings and specifications. Experience in checking bid requests, cost estimates, contracts, specifications and drawings to ascertain that all characteristics therein are complied with and are compatible to each other with the process capabilities of the factory. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of education and specialized experience. This experience must have equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the major duties of this position as described above. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
