These positions are located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Office of the Director in Beltsville, MD.
In these positions, you will provide administrative and clerical support in an office environment, and coordinate office activities for the organization in support of program goals and objectives.
Duties
Receive and read incoming correspondence, reports, requests for material, and documents concerning the various programs directed to the Associate Area Director.
Arrange appointments, prepare itineraries, and make all travel arrangements for the Associate Area Directors, including flight and room reservations.
Take notes during meetings that are of a complex technical or scientific nature and concern a wide range of subject matters relative to the Area program.
Produce various written documents utilizing varied and advanced functions in one or more types of office automation software.
Maintain files of correspondence, reports, technical data, and miscellaneous material related to the responsibilities of the supervisor and the Area Director.
Receive telephone calls and visitors to the Area Office seeking information relative to the activities of the research area.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience preparing a variety of recurring internal reports or documents; providing administrative support to leadership; and handling incoming and outgoing correspondence.
GS-08
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience scheduling and coordinating meetings or trainings; maintaining an office filing system; and serving as a liaison between the office and external contacts.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
