Duties
1. Revises preventative maintenance and calibration cycles based on Army guidance, regulations, manufacturers' literature, and local conditions. Monitors equipment lifecycles. Assists with the out shipment of medical devices for deployment and reconstitution of assets when returned. Troubleshoots, tests, and repairs a wide variety of printed circuit boards (PCB) that have been removed from a broad spectrum of medical equipment and devices. Conducts biomedical repair-oriented training for Army National Guard medical logistics personnel performing Annual Training and preparation for mobilizations. Prioritizes Global Force Management Plans (GFMAP) and Contingency Response Forces (CRF) to ensure that units are medically ready for training, deployment, and state activation for domestic operations (DOMOPS).Installs, maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and rebuilds electronic medical equipment including audiometers, electrocardiographs, electroencephalographs, defibrillators, infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, blood chemistry analyzers, sterilizers, dental equipment, operating tables, anesthesia apparatus, respiratory therapy units, x-ray film processors, and hypodermic injection apparatus. Performs software diagnosis to determine failure between software and hardware and corrects system software or application program malfunction. Stays abreast of changes to regulatory guidance to include Safe Medical Devices Act (SMDA), Environmental Protection Agency, Code of Federal Regulations (i.e., 21 CFR (Laser & Ultrasounds) and 29 CFR (Safety in the Workplace).Conducts preventive maintenance (PM) inspections of medical equipment to include visual inspections, electrical safety inspections, calibration, performance verification, parts replacement, and interpretation of PM inspection results to determine whether equipment is safe and operating within manufacturer's specifications. PM inspections are performed using written test procedures. Occasionally, medical equipment will be so new or unique that PM procedures are not documented. In these instances, the incumbent will utilize personal knowledge, skills, and professional judgment to develop and document a PM procedure and complete the inspection. Documents the results of PM inspections using appropriate forms. 35%
2.Serves as the automated maintenance system manager for the maintenance operation to include all data files and reports that pertain to medical maintenance services and equipment readiness within the area of responsibility. Focuses on quality issues in all aspects of biomedical equipment maintenance processes and maintenance shop operations concurrent with an effective quality management program, i.e. ISO 9001, etc. The incumbent serves as a technical expert in and performs unit level maintenance and support for one or more of the following systems: radiology, laboratory, hearing, pulmonary, occupational health equipment, and high-end electronics (not included in one of the other functional groups). Evaluates, installs, maintains, diagnoses, overhauls, repairs, calibrates, and tests medical electronic equipment/systems maintained within the program. Provides mentorship, assistance, and in-service training in the setup, operation, calibration, and service of supported medical equipment. Orders spare parts and accessories as necessary to perform repair functions. Documents the extent and cost of repairs using appropriate maintenance automation system and forms. Operates a wide variety of invasive and non-invasive Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) and must be able to understand, operate and interpret results from specialized TMDE that supports complex equipment/ systems as well as radiographic/fluoroscopic energy devices, electrical leakage current testers, defibrillator analyzers, infusion pump testers, and ventilator testers. 30%
3. Develops and updates standard operating procedures, system level procedures and work instructions as required, and explains work requirements, methods, policies, and procedures. Performs a variety of quality assurance functions in support of the medical equipment maintenance operation and mission. Manages the shop Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) program maintaining appropriate calibration schedules and ensuring TMDE is available to perform medical equipment services. The incumbent manages/oversees all medical equipment related MMQC/incidents/ recalls/warnings. 20%
4. Repairs electronic, pneumatic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical medical equipment to include troubleshooting, identifying source of problem(s), and replacement of defective printed circuit board(s), discrete component(s) or other parts as appropriate. Orders spare parts and accessories as necessary to perform repair functions. Documents the extent and cost of repairs using appropriate automated maintenance management system or manual forms. 15%

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Army National Guard. Education
Undergraduate Education: Major study -- any field of study in an accredited college or university.

Experience
General Experience: Experience that provided a knowledge of the characteristics, uses, and properties of equipment. This experience may have been gained in trades or crafts, engineering technician, production control, inspection, or other work related to the specialization of the position to be filled.
Technical school may be credited as general experience in accordance with the following criteria:
Full-time resident study in a technical institute above the high school or trade school level on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of a full 4-year curriculum in a technical or vocational high school for up to 6 months of general experience.
Completion of a resident trade school course of at least 1 year in the manufacture, repair, or maintenance of equipment for up to 1 year of general experience.
Specialized Experience:1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience:
Working as a skilled mechanic or maintenance worker, sales or service engineer, or planner or estimator in a technical group dealing with manufacture, utilization, repair, or operation of equipment.
Reviewing and applying technical specifications and requirements.
Analyzing equipment and forecasting spare parts requirements.
Reading and interpreting engineering change orders, equipment requisitions, shop orders, and work orders.
Analyzing contract specifications and examining pertinent equipment to determine if specifications are met.
Analyzing or supervising maintenance, repair, or production operations to determine methods of improvement.
