This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Thirteenth Coast Guard District, Sector Puget Sound, Prevention Department, Inspection Division in Seattle, Washington.

Duties

This position serves as a Fishing Vessel Safety Examiner/Marine Inspector in a Coast Guard Sector Office examining commercial fishing industry vessels for compliance with the Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Act (CFIVSA) 1988, and the Alternate Compliance Safety Agreement (ACSA) within the assigned geographic location. The fishing vessel safety program is administered nationwide for a fishing industry, which employs more than 300,000 fishermen on over 60,000 vessels.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• The position requires a valid state driver's license.
• Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include the following: Providing technical guidance on commercial fishing vessel issues. Working with Federal, state, local agencies and the fishing industry to promote commercial fishing industry safety. Planning, scheduling, and conducting on site examinations of commercial fishing industry vessels for compliance with all applicable federal regulations. Managing the processing of all marine violation cases for the fishing vessels. Evaluating the compliance of foreign vessel safety management systems with international Safety Management Codes. Evaluating the compliance of Coast Guard inspected vessels with domestic and foreign vessel inspection standards for vessel navigation, vessel safety, vessel manning and pollution prevention. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
