The Position: This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour. You will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging that you are aware of the obligation and willing to be displaced under reduction in force procedures upon the return of the former incumbent. Duties

Distinguish normal from abnormal anatomical and physiological findings such as pathological heart and respiratory sounds, abnormal abdominal palpation findings, ataxic gait, and abnormal behavior. Maintain correct position of bandages, splints, casts, and other devices designed to prevent further damage to an injured extremity. Monitor condition of wounds under bandages, remove sutures and surgical drains, and administer topical medications. Perform fecal flotation for detection of internal parasites, heart worm tests (filtration and immunologic), automated blood gas analysis, complete blood count by manual and automated methods. Maintain supply inventory at designated limits by monitoring existing stores, ordering/receiving new supplies, ensuring that expired or outdated drugs/supplies are removed and replaced. Restrain animals for radiographic study.

Requirements

  • Possesses current Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or equivalent licensure, or is enrolled in an accredited technician program (within 6 weeks of employment) with a defined path to acquiring licensure.
  • Successful completion of a pre-placement medical examination to ensure the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and/or DA Form 7412 “Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Position designated as Mission Essential which may require work or remaining at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to the facility, natural disaster, delayed reporting).
  • Temporary duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 5%.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Animal HusbandryBiological Laboratory InvestigationBiologyVisual Identification Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
