This position is in the Department of Labor (DOL), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), District Office. The incumbent administers the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) activities, specifically the Office of Workers' Compensation (OWCP), and assists the Administrative Officer (AO) in administrative functions, such as: Safety, Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Benefits, Performance Management, Staffing, and personnel activities. This position is outside the bargaining unit.

The responsibilities described are for the full performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope performed with less independence, and limited complexity. For 0301-9:

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
  • Appointment to this position may require a background investigation.

Qualifications

To qualify for this Administrative Specialist GS-0301-9 position, your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience and/or education requirements as defined below. If qualifying based on experience, be sure these types of examples are evident in your resume. If qualifying based on education, a copy of your transcripts is required. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. For the GS-9: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-7 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include at least three (3) or more of the following: Performing administrative functions related to human resources (examples may include staffing, performance management, labor relations, safety or health programs); Handling confidential situations and/or information; Analyzing problems, gathering and/or presenting data for program or staff officials; Researching and/or interpreting information; Preparing reports and maintaining records. OR Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR A combination of education and specialized experience listed above and the total percentage must equal at least 100%.
