About the Position: The Alaska District is seeking to fill a position located Cost Engineering Section, Engineering Division. An ideal candidate will have strong experience in cost estimating and construction oversight on a variety of large and small, vertical and horizontal projects. The candidate will have opportunities to work in a fast-paced environment on projects across the Alaska District portfolio.

Duties

This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-9/11 grade level. At the full performance, GS-12, the incumbent will: Serve as senior Cost Engineer on engineering cost estimates for planning design and execution of construction by contract projects. Prepares Current Working Estimates and design control estimates from sketches, plans, notes and specifications by others. Prepares preliminary Government Estimates using parametric methods and historical data to be used for budgetary and programmatic purposes. Reviews estimates prepared by peers and contracted architect/engineering design firms or firms specializing in construction cost estimating for correct format, etc.

OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as: Engineering or Computer Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes, managing and reviewing the construction costs estimates for complex construction projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
