This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The position is located at the Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Fleet Management Expansion (FMX), Eglin Air Force Base, FL

Duties

Perform maintenance on a variety of boats, motors, trailer, and support equipment. Remove, repair, and/or replace alternators and starter assemblies. Replace items such as spark plugs, coils, paints, ignition wiring, etc. Use test tank to test run motors and make required adjustments to ensure proper field operation. Troubleshoot run motor and/or electrical system to determine probable area of malfunction. Use compression gauge to check compression. Analyze the requirement for tools spare parts for assigned outboard motors, boats, and trailers for annual usage factor. Coordinate for the procurement and distribution of supplies and repair parts required to ensure supply economy and efficient utilization. Use Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-Army) to perform administrative maintenance functions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Lift and carry items weighting up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Marine Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common maintenance of marine equipment such as boats, motors, boat trailer, lighting, wheels, wheel bearing runners, slats, or support equipment. Can test motor to determine probable area of malfunction; replace items such as spark plugs, coils, paints, ignition wiring, alternators and starter assemblies, propellers, etc.; follow safety guidance and procedures; coordinate required supplies for repair; and use automated scheduling system to schedule equipment maintenance. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort - The employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch for long periods, and frequently lift and carry items weighting up to 50 pounds. Items such as 40 horsepower motors, Zodiac boat, fiberglass boats, etc., require assistance of up to three or more persons. Working Conditions - The work of this position is performed inside/outside and on waterways when conducting operational checks. The employee may be exposed to inclement weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are often present. The employee is frequently exposed to cuts, chemical burns; fumes from chemicals, such as glue, cements, adhesive, methyl ethyl ketone, and other chemical compounds used in rubber boat repairs.
