You will serve as a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC in the ELECTRONICS SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will install, overhaul, modify, operate, troubleshoot, repair, and test a variety of electronic equipment. You will service complex, active, passive, and special purpose sonar equipment, transducers and hydrophones, radar, etc. You will maintain and repair equipment according to a variety of published specifications and master standards. You will interpret a variety of technical electronic data and make independent judgements in determining the work sequence and selection of various trade tools, testing and measuring instruments.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: *Applying comprehensive trade knowledge of electronic principles such as circuit elements, micro-miniaturized integrated circuits, computer logic, analog, binary and digital concepts, synchro and servo devices, antennas, signal behavior, microwave, electromagnetic radiation, transmission, oscillation, amplification, and display. *Reading, interpreting, and applying a variety of technical electronic data such as schematic symbols, wiring diagrams, tables and charts, mathematical expressions and formulas, and various codes. *Using established techniques and methods of repair, testing, alignment and calibration of equipment in the audio, video, RF and microwave frequency ranges. *Performing troubleshooting techniques involving signal tracing, waveform analysis, voltage, current and resistance checks, and use of special test panels and mock-up facilities. *Applying cleanliness requirements, safety regulations, and radiological safety regulations and radiological safety procedures.
