About the Position: This position is with Presidio of Monterey Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshall Division, Investigations Branch. Incumbent of this position will independently, or as a team member, conduct investigations to apprehend and/or detain persons committing crimes against persons and property. Coordinates with civil and military agencies involving jurisdictional authority, exchange of information, and similar problems and considerations.

Duties

Conduct investigations to apprehend and/or detain persons committing crimes against persons and property. Plan and conduct complex investigations of felony and misdemeanor criminal offenses. Identifying, collecting and preserving evidence taken from crime scenes. Coordinate with civil and military agencies involving jurisdictional authority, exchange of information, and similar problems and considerations. Develops and follows leads, takes statements, and gathers information and facts. Responsible for the proper documentary control of the safe and secure storage of all evidence obtained during investigations, raids, etc. Respond to calls for emergency assistance and performing general law enforcement, physical security, and first aid tasks as directed. Analyze data to identify suspects and develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspects to trial. Perform surveillance of suspects, crime scenes, and suspected or potential criminal activities.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Successful graduation from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy is required, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Successful graduation from the Military Police Investigator Course is required.
  • Incumbent must pass the training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work. These include: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass an entry level physical and annual re-certification of standard Army Physical fitness/agility test in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid stateside motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
  • The position is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, overtime, weekends and/or holiday work schedules.
  • Pass annual physical agility test requirements.
  • Be qualified and certified in the use of all assigned weapons and police related equipment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
