The primary purpose of this position is to develop and implement aircraft maintenance work plans and schedules to ensure the effective and efficient accomplishment of required maintenance and coordination in support of unit operational flight scheduling. Additionally, provides training to reservist in the accomplishment of the tasks set forth herein.

Duties

Develops maintenance plans for assigned aircraft and associated equipment. Interprets design and/or production engineering data, standards of work processes, and master repair plans. Implements maintenance plans through the development and publication of maintenance schedules to include scheduled and unscheduled repair actions, time-sensitive inspections or modifications, component time change replacement and aircraft or system inspections. Responsible for maintaining data documentation to include Aircraft Maintenance Historical Documentation, Aircraft Jacket Files, and Aircraft Document Reviews. Monitors configuration management of the unit aircraft.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours, and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, clerical and administrative support work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes working with recurring manufacture, overhaul, or repair of products or projects using multiple-process production methods and procedures to develop plans and information necessary for the control of complex products such as airframes of fixed and rotary wing aircraft or a variety of complex and long-term facility repair and construction projects; Using product and manufacturing terminology, data, and standards, and determining how to relate them to new projects; Observing and analyzing production operations to determine if schedules are being followed, if they can be improved and determining the causes of production delays. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of and ability to interpret military aircraft and manufacturing terminology, technical orders, data, standards and instructions, and to relate them properly to the particular control projects assigned in preparing production plans and schedules and in maintaining effective follow-up. 2. Knowledge of maintenance organizational structures and skill in the distribution of personnel to obtain a balance in workload. Knowledge and skill in appropriate production/technical processes and material posture of maintenance work centers to assure continuing availability of material requirement. 3. Knowledge of and skill in the use of automated maintenance information systems and aircraft maintenance documentation processes to collect, compile, and correlate production data from a variety of sources and use that data to determine compliance status of scheduled maintenance, inspection, and modification actions. 4. Knowledge of assigned equipment and of aerospace systems, subsystems, components, and associated inspection, repair, modification, and supply processes. 5. Skill in oral communication to effectively communicate with senior operations and maintenance personnel. Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures. 6. Ability to plan, schedule, and take corrective action to meet emergency and regular workload requirements. Ability to correlate and analyze a variety of routine production data, technical manuals, and directives to determine applicability. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
