About the Position: The Legal Administrative Specialist is assigned to the Office of Special Trial Counsel (OSTC), Fort Belvoir, Virginia, with duty at Fort Leavenworth, KS. The Legal Administrative Specialist works under the supervision of the Special Trial Counsel (STC), and coordinates the Victim/Witness Assistance Program for sexual assault and special victim cases. Provides specialized legal support and services to victims and witnesses in accordance with regulations and other guidance.

Duties

Serve as the Special Victim Capability, in support of the Special Trial Counsel, with a focus on sexual assault and domestic violence victims. Manage and facilitate Special Trial Counsel (STC) Victim-Witness Assistance Programs within assigned region. May act as the Chairperson for quarterly Victim/Witness Counsel meetings. Coordinate with local providers of victim/witness assistance services such as: military law enforcement, criminal investigative, and other military civilian agencies to ensure distribution of pertinent information.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Heavy lifting requirement of 50lbs.
• This position is deemed mission essential to ensure continued performance of mission essential functions of the organization and meets the definition of mission essential as prescribed in DODI 3020.42 and any other component policy
• The duties of this position may require approximately 25% temporary duty (TDY) travel.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Assists providing legal support and services to victims and witnesses such as to inform victims and witnesses of their rights or refer victims and witnesses to appropriate legal services or victim-witness assistance programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Management or Social Work or Law. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
