About the Position: This position is located in Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville. The cost of living is lower than the average for all major U.S. cities. This position performs a variety receptionist and clerical duties within a 24 hour medical facility.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Duties
Enter, manipulate, and/or retrieve information and data using health care specific software program.
Utilize the computer to maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.
Maintain all patient records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation ensuring each entry contains proper patient and health care provider identification.
Responsible for the accurate accountability of inpatients, birth registration, patient registration and admissions and dispositions.
Obtains medical and demographic information to register patients into the HER (Electronic Health Record).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has been designated Weather Essential. In the event of inclement weather conditions, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Incumbent is required to be screened for applicable immunizations and subject to missing/required immunizations.
- This position may require occasional travel (up to 5%).
- A qualified typist is required.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements..
- The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.
Qualifications
This is a TERM position NTE 1 year and 1 day.
This position is a TERM position. It is a time limited position and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years total. This position may be converted to a permanent, career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.
This position MAY be made permanent without further competition contingent upon verification of the incumbent's non-competitive eligibility (must be a 30% veteran, reinstatement eligible, etc., under competitive service).

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative and/or clerical support duties such as record keeping and filing; providing information to patients, professional medical staff, and the general public; and utilizing a personal computer and office automation software programs to enter or retrieve data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Time in Grade Requirement: For positions GS-5 and lower: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks may not be promoted more than 2 grades within the preceding 52 weeks.
