The primary purpose of this position is to operate one or more motor vehicles, which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds. The vehicles operated by this position meet the definition of a commercial motor vehicle.

Duties

Incumbent will perform a variety of work involving the operation of motor vehicles in support of the maintenance and repair of roadsides including roads, culverts, bridges, guardrails, etc. Operates diesel and gasoline powered motor vehicles and heavy equipment which typically have a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds; vehicles are usually equipped with air brakes. Operates vehicles, including dump trucks and trash truck, in all kinds of weather over rough terrain, in close quarters, and in heavy traffic. Duties include crack sealing, asphalt patching, refuse/recycling collection, transporting material, and loading trucks with front end loader and/or backhoe. Operates tractors with attached flail and sickle bar mowers to cut grass and brush on shoulders, ditches, and cut banks alongside park roads. Performs operator maintenance on all vehicles operated according to manufacturer and park standards. Completes minor repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment. Performs manual labor tasks such as digging, raking, cleaning drainage ditches, picking up litter, etc.
