This position is located in the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility in the Behavioral Health Program, Belcourt, ND. The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse performs a variety of nursing tasks that require specialized knowledge and skills specific to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of mental health and substance abuse disorders.
Duties
Provides comprehensive nursing care for any type of psychiatric patient and observes patients closely, evaluating and recording any significant behavior and reaction patterns for use in the re-evaluation of treatment plans.
Performs interventions that promote and foster health, assess dysfunction, assist patients to regain or improve their coping abilities, maximize strengths, and prevent further disability. These interventions focus on mental health and include health promotion and maintenance, intake screening and evaluation, provision of a therapeutic environment, monitoring patients and assisting them with treatment regimens (including prescribed psychopharmacological agents and their effects), health teaching, counseling and crisis care, and psychiatric rehabilitation.
Demonstrates the understanding of the nursing process as well as disease process including the ability to recognize physical, psychological, social, cultural, spiritual and environmental needs.
Provides nursing assessment of clients upon their admission and reassessment according to policies and procedures. Develops comprehensive, individual, nursing care plans. Contributes to the development of treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and other members of the treatment team.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing comprehensive nursing care to patients with a wide variety of mental health and substance abuse disorders; assessing patient health problems and needs, developing and implementing nursing care plans, maintaining medical records, advising patients on health maintenance and disease prevention. Or, possess a masters degree in professional nursing.

Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan.
