This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

VA Careers - Physical Therapy: https://youtube.com/embed/Gi2hoFqIoqY Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following functions: Responsible for the examination and treatment of patients referred to the Physical Therapy Department. Provides in-service and clinical training programs as assigned by the Supervisor, Physical Therapy Department. Designs, conducts, and evaluates education, experiences within specialty content area for staff members, taking an active role in Journal Club, and seeks educational opportunities to enhance the Physical Therapy Department, PM&RS, and the Medical Center. Establishes and maintains contact with other key staff involved in patient care via written, telephone, and personal communication on a regular basis at the Medical Center and VISN level. Develops and provides timely reports to the Supervisor, Physical Therapy Department. Maintains timely data input utilizing care plans, initial assessments and/or specialty protocols as part of an ongoing process in coordination with other key interdisciplinary staff to provide effective patient care. Represents the Physical Therapy Department and PM&RS at various clinical and administrative meetings/rounds at the discretion of the Supervisor, Physical Therapy Department. Serves as a subject matter expert in the areas of long term care and geriatrics and as a consultant to Physical Therapy and other Medical Center staff in the evaluation and treatment of patients in long term care and geriatrics. Serves as a mentor to other therapists/students in the evaluation and treatment in the areas of long-term care and geriatrics. Provides in-service and clinical training programs in the areas of long-term care and geriatrics. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. PTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Education: A Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist OR Master's degree in Physical Therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist OR Doctorate degree in physical therapy. License: Physical therapists must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Experience: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level and one of the following: Evidence of a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice directly in the specialty area. This time must be between the past two and five years; or Board Certification in the Geriatric Physical Therapy recognized by the ABPTS; or Completion of a fellowship program; or An additional advanced degree in a related field. Grade Determinations: GS-13 Physical Therapist - Geriatric Clinical Specialist Experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level is required and the candidate must demonstrate the following KSA's: Advanced knowledge and expert skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in a specialized treatment area of physical therapy. Ability to serve as a consultant and subject matter expert for health care providers regarding the delivery of care within a specialized content area of physical therapy. Ability to teach and mentor medical center staff in a specialized content area of physical therapy. Ability to guide the work of a multi-disciplinary team in a specialized content area of physical therapy. Advanced knowledge and expert skill to perform and interpret specialized procedures and tests in evaluating the treatment outcomes in the assigned specialty content area Preferred Experience: Greater than 2 years experience and over 2,000 hours of Geriatric Physical Therapy experience within the past 2-5 years is required. Possessing GCS OR planning and qualified to sit for GCS exam is preferred. Completion of Geriatric PT Residency preferred. References: VA Handbook 5005/99, Part II, Appendix G12, PHYSICAL THERAPIST QUALIFICATION STANDARD, dated February 7, 2018. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-13. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over, Use of fingers, both hands required, Reaching above shoulder, Walking (8 hours), Standing (8 hours), Both legs required (1 prosthetic), Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, Ability to distinguish basic colors, Ability to distinguish shades of colors, Hearing (Aid permitted), and Mental and emotional stability.
