The Electrician Supervisor position is organizationally aligned under the Engineering Service Line within the Maintenance and Repairs Section of the Facility Management service at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago, IL. Duties

The Supervisory Electrician (Electrical Foreman) plans and directs the Electric Shop program by serving as a technical and administrative supervisor over the section exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations involving the maintenance, repair, modification, renovation and new construction of various building components. The incumbent serves under the direct Supervision of the Maintenance and Repairs General Foreman of the Engineering Service and is responsible for the effective, efficient operation and maintenance of the emergency generators, main feeder lines, utility distribution system, fry and oil cooled transformers, building lights, electrical controls, motors, pumps, electrical circuits, all types of industrial equipment, laboratory equipment, technical medical equipment (non-patient), various building heating units, various kitchen and housekeeping equipment at the main campus as well as the hospital's Community Based Outpatient Clinic's (CBOC'S). Duties Include: Supervises employees at the WG-10 and WG-8 grade levels. Plans work schedules of operations for electrician and electrical workers. Maintains time and attendance records and gives performance ratings as well as safety and training to personnel. Establishes work priorities and deadlines for maintenance or projects on the basis of general work schedules, methods, and policies established. Assigns tasks to be performed, explains work requirements, methods, and procedures. Provides assistance and instructs subordinates when necessary. Distributes work orders. Reviews work while in progress and upon completion to ensure effective productivity and quality. Ensures that materials are ordered and delivered to work sites. Investigates work related problems to identify causes and implements corrective actions. Assists subordinates in repair and maintenance of equipment. Coordinates the work of the unit supervised with the shop foreman and other sections chiefs. Performs formal and informal performance appraisals, counsel's employees on performance and responds to informal/formal complaints. Counsels' subordinate employees on training needs and initiates recommendations to provide necessary training. Initiates recommendations for promotions, reassignments or recognition of outstanding performance of subordinates. Schedules and approves leave requests. Maintains reports of emergency generator testing, preventative maintenance, and utility monitors. Reviews service publications and policy memoranda and keeps up with new developments such as National Electrical Code, Joint Commission Standards, and VA Standard Specifications. Writes scopes of work to ensure projects are completed properly. Reviews scopes of work and contractor's performance. Ensures the work done conforms to the contract drawings and specifications. Inspects work performed by subordinates and assists with inspections of outside contract work. Performs other relates duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Position Description Title/PD#: Electrical Supervisor/PD14041-O Physical Requirements: Continuous standing, bending, stooping, working, climbing ladders, and heavy pushing when removing trash, soiled linen, mopping, wall washing, cleaning vents, light fixtures, etc. Frequently lifts or moves objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity must be sufficient to see dust, dirt, and cobwebs. Working Conditions: Incumbent is subject to hazards from exposure to electrical shock and burns, work is also performed in inclement weather.

Your background must demonstrate proper techniques and have knowledge of all electrical wiring and equipment maintenance. This knowledge must be to the extent that the Supervisor can make proper substitutions required to make electrical repairs or modifications. Incumbent must have technical knowledge and skill to install, plan, modify, repair and troubleshoot electrical problems, load and test new and existing electrical lines, three phase circuits and systems, fixtures, single and multi-circuit controls, etc. The incumbent must have knowledge and skill in operation and maintenance of the emergency generators, main feeder lines, utility distribution system, fry and oil cooled transformers, building lights, electrical controls, motors, pumps, electrical circuits, all types of industrial equipment, laboratory equipment, technical medical equipment (non-patient), various building heating unites, various kitchen and housekeeping equipment.
