This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive through Sept. 30, 2027. Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.

Duties

The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic performs work installing, recognizing the causes of faulty equipment, maintaining, and making repairs on a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment at the Wilkes Barre VA Medical Center and outpatient clinics. The A/C Equipment Mechanic installs, performs preventive maintenance inspections, recognizes the causes of faulty equipment, and makes repairs on a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units such as air handlers, ductless air conditioning systems, fan coil units, split ac units, rooftop package units, walk in freezers and refrigerators, reach in refrigerators and freezers, ice cream cabinets, evaporative fans, and exhaust fans. Monitors and operates the building automation system and initiate any critical alarms to senior level mechanics and supervisor. Performs preventive maintenance on all air condition vents including supply, return, and exhaust vents. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00am-3:30pm Critical Skill Incentive (CSI): Authorized Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD025400 Physical Requirements: Muscular Effort and foot, leg, eye, hand and arm coordination are required for using tools and making repairs on equipment while working in awkward positions in cramped, dark, and elevated environments. Normal daily physical effort requires: Physical exertion related to actions such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes, and shapes. Physical effort related to movements such as walking, running, climbing, crawling, and bending. Strain related to lack of movement such as standing in place, crouching, or stooping for extended periods of time. Working Conditions: Covers the hazards, physical hardships, and working conditions to which workers are exposed in performing assigned work. Positions vary in such ways as the nature of the work environment; the extent to which it includes unpleasant, disagreeable, or hazardous conditions; the degree to which such conditions are experienced; the frequency and duration of exposure; the adequacy of protective clothing and gear, safety devices, and safe trade practices; and the possible effects on the worker. Elements considered under this factor include, but are not limited to: Lighting, heating, and ventilation in work area. Weather conditions to which exposed when working outdoors. Temperature to which exposed in the work area. Dust, grease, and soiling of clothing and skin surfaces. Noise and vibration. Gases and fumes. Hazards in working above ground level, on slippery surfaces, or in crowded areas near moving vehicles or cutting tools..

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
